What is IDRS?

Definition

Indian Diabetes Risk Score (IDRS) is a score that helps identify the diabetes risk of an individual through answers to some simple questions. It was developed by eminent diabetologist Dr. V. Mohan and his team, Dr. R. Deepa, Dr. M. Deepa, Dr. S. Somannavar and Dr. M. Datta, and was published in JAPI in 2005.

Usage

This tool calculates your IDRS using your age, gender, waist size (in cms.), family history of diabetes and physical activity levels as inputs. To use the tool, enter the requested values and hit the "Calculate Button". Your IDRS will then be calculated and shown.

For example, if you enter gender of Male, age of 54, waist as 88 cms., father/mother - both with no diabetes, strenuous level of work as low and regular exercise as yes, your IDRS will be shown as 50.

Interpretation

A value of 60 or more indicates high risk, and means that you should get yourself checked by a doctor and modify your lifestyle to bring down your risk level.
